Duddon Valley Short
The Short Duddon is a fell race run simultaneously with the Long Duddon. The course is about 10 miles long with approximately 3000 feet of ascent and runs up Dow and Caw in the Lake District.
The event is a category A fell race. Competitors must have navigational skills and appropriate kit for travel in rough mountain terrain. Required equipment includes a map covering the race area, a compass and a whistle, and full body cover must be worn or carried throughout the race. Competitors are advised to carry food and water. Organisers state that entrants should have completed similar events or have mountaineering skills suited to fast travel on rough ground.
The route has narrow single track sections from the start until Wallowbarrow farm and a bridleway above Grassguards that can be wet and boggy. Caution is advised on the descents from Little Stand and White Pike. A quarry cliff near the route is not marked on some small scale maps. There is very little water on the course after the Three Shires Stone. The terrain can be difficult, especially in poor visibility. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
