Denali135
The Denali135 is an endurance race along the Denali Highway in Alaska, running roughly the full length of the historic route from Paxson to Cantwell. The course covers approximately 131 miles of the 135 mile highway with about 8,800 feet of total elevation gain. The first 21 miles are paved, then the road becomes chip sealed and gravel. Key route points include Tangle Lake Lodge (mile 20), Maclaren Summit Pass at 4,086 feet (mile 36.8), Maclaren River Lodge (mile 42), Alpine Creek Lodge (mile 68), the Susitna River Bridge (mile 79.5), and the final paved segment beginning near mile 131.8 into Cantwell.
Runners compete as individuals but must have a mandatory support vehicle and crew; one pacer at a time may accompany a runner. The maximum time to finish is 48 hours. Field size is limited to 50 runners. Applicants must submit qualifying ultra performances: at least three races of 50 miles or greater in the past three years, with at least one 100 mile or longer event; self-run distances may be considered. Qualifying race results must meet the original race maximum times.
Logistics notes include lodging options within 30 to 60 minutes of the start and lodging or small services at several lodges along the highway. Some rental vehicles are recommended for travel on the gravel highway, and RV rental is an alternative. There are no refunds for these races; deferments may be granted at the race director's discretion.
