Denali 50K Overview

The Denali 50K is an endurance race held on the historic Denali Highway in Alaska. The course follows a scenic gravel road that served as the original entrance to Denali National Park. Participants run through a landscape featuring panoramic vistas of the Alaska Range, glaciers, and geological formations such as kettle lakes and eskers. Due to the timing around the summer solstice, the event takes place under nearly 20 hours of daylight.

The race starts at Maclaren Summit, which is the highest point on the Denali Highway and the third highest road pass in the Alaska highway system. From the summit, the route descends northwest toward the Maclaren River. There is one designated aid station located at Mile 18 at Clearwater Creek Wayside. The course concludes at Alpine Creek Lodge.

The event has a strict capacity limit of 50 runners. To be eligible for entry, applicants must have completed at least three marathons in the previous two years, including one trail marathon, or demonstrate sufficient training to complete the distance within the time limit. Runners have a maximum of 9 hours to finish the course.

Participants may choose to be supported by a vehicle and crew or run without a support team using drop bags positioned at the aid station. One pacer is permitted per runner under specific circumstances with approval. Mandatory equipment for all participants includes a hydration vest or water bottles, a buff for protection against dust and insects, and at least 200 calories of food at all times. All finishers who complete the course within the 9-hour limit receive a medal and a shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
