Denali 100K Endurance Race
The Denali 100K is a point to point endurance race held on the historic Denali Highway in Alaska. The course follows a gravel road that served as the original entrance to Denali National Park. Participants travel through a subalpine landscape characterized by panoramic vistas of the Alaska Range, including views of the Susitna River Valley and peaks such as Mount Deborah, Hess, and Denali.
The event takes place during the summer solstice period, providing approximately 20 hours of daylight. The race starts at Alpine Creek Lodge, located at mile 68 of the highway, and proceeds west to a finish line outside of Cantwell. The route features remote sections, particularly a 50-mile stretch between the Susitna River Bridge and the finish line where no services or lodging are available.
Participation is limited to 50 runners. Each athlete must have a mandatory support vehicle and crew to provide food and water throughout the duration of the event. Runners may also utilize one pacer at a time, though no single pacer is permitted to cover more than 30 miles.
Athletes must meet specific qualifying criteria to register for the 100 km distance:
- Completion of at least one 50K race and two marathons within the previous two years.
- Or proof of sufficient training to complete the course within the time limit.
Mandatory equipment for runners includes a GPS tracker, a buff, a hydration vest or water bottles, 500 calories of food, and high-visibility gear with flashing blinkers for use during dusk and dawn. Finishers who complete the course within 18 hours receive a belt buckle and a finishers shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
