XTERRA Deadwood Mickelson is a trail run event in the Black Hills of South Dakota and is part of the XTERRA Trail Run World Series. The course passes an abandoned mining town, crosses railroad trestles, goes through a mountain, passes large rock formations, follows a creek and finishes in the historic town of Deadwood. The marathon course is USATF certified and is a Boston Qualifier. The event allows 232 Trail Run World Championship slots.

Key logistics and race services: packet and timing chip pick-up is at the expo only; no race-day packet pick-up. Shuttle service is provided to the start lines and free parking is available at the Days of 76 Rodeo Grounds; there is no parking at the starting areas. A bag-drop service delivers bags to the finish and bags are laid out in numeric order. Aid stations are sited about every 2 miles and provide water, Powerade, banana chunks and pretzels; some stations include M&M’s and there is an extra aid station near mile 25. Portable toilets are placed along both marathon and half courses. Medical support includes a finish-area medical tent staffed by EMTs and course support from local search and rescue and bicycle monitors. The course is open for seven hours.
