Black Hills 100
The Black Hills 100 is an ultramarathon held in late June on the Centennial Trail (Trail #89) in the northern Black Hills of South Dakota. The event is hosted in Sturgis and uses mostly single-track trail with sections of double-track ATV trail, dirt and rocky surfaces, and minimal pavement. The 100 Mile course is an out-and-back along the Centennial Trail and includes about 16,779 ft of elevation gain. Other distances are point-to-point and follow sections of the Centennial and Deerfield Trails.
Average late June weather in the area is a high near 79 degrees and a low near 53 degrees, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. The Centennial Trail was created in 1989 and extends for more than 111 miles, originally using a mix of single-track and old logging roads and later rerouted to provide mostly single-track terrain.
