The David Staff Memorial Race takes place on Sunday 16 November 2025 at The Kiosk, Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen BB3 0LA. The event is organised by Darwen Dashers. Entry is open from 23 June 2025 and closes on 15 November 2025. Minimum age is 14 years. Entry fees are £7.50 for FRA members and £8.50 for non-members. The event page lists 30 participants so far.

Course and purpose

The race is a Category AS fell event covering 6 km with 305 m of climb. Registration is at The Kiosk and the race start is on the main path opposite the Kiosk. The route turns left at the bandstand, leaves the wood via the Lychgate carpark next to The Sunnyhurst pub, turns right to Waterman's Cottage, then left up the concrete path to Darwen Tower and around the moors. The descent returns via the pub into the woods and the finish is at the bandstand. The race is run in memory of a junior club member and raises funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young; funds raised have helped identify heart defects in over 60 people and totalled more than £100,000 to date.
