David Staff Memorial Race

The David Staff Memorial Race is scheduled for Sunday 16 November 2025 at The Kiosk, Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen BB3 0LA. Entry is managed via Si Entries and registration takes place at The Kiosk. Fees for this edition are £7.50 for FRA members and £8.50 for non members. The event has a minimum age of 14 years.

The race is categorised AS and is a short fell course of approximately 6 km with about 305 m of climb. The race start is on the main path opposite The Kiosk and the route follows the course established in 2014. Key route features include a left turn at the bandstand, an exit from the wood via the Lychgate carpark next to The Sunnyhurst pub, a turn towards Waterman’s Cottage, a concrete path up to Darwen Tower and a circuit of the surrounding moors. The descent returns into the woods via the pub and the finish is at the bandstand.

Proceeds support Cardiac Risk in the Young to fund heart screening. Organisers note that past fundraising linked to the event has helped identify heart defects in over 60 people and contributed to charitable screening efforts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
