David Staff Memorial Fell Race

The David Staff Memorial Fell Race is a Category AS fell race around the West Pennine Moors above Darwen, Lancashire. The route covers approximately 6 km with about 305 m of ascent. The event is based at The Kiosk in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen.

Registration takes place at The Kiosk and the race starts on the main path opposite the Kiosk. The outward route turns left at the bandstand, leaves the wood via the Lychgate carpark next to The Sunnyhurst pub, then turns right toward Waterman's Cottage and left up the concrete path. The course continues up to Darwen Tower and across the moors. The descent follows the outward route back into the woods via the pub, with the finish at the bandstand.

Entry is open for people aged 14 and older. Entry fees are listed as FRA Member £7.50 and Non Member £8.50. Entries open 23 March 2026 and close 14 November 2026.

The event is held in memory of a young club member who died after a heart condition. Funds raised support Cardiac Risk in the Young and are used to provide heart screening; fundraising related to this cause has helped identify heart defects in over 60 people and has exceeded £100,000.
