Event overview

DalesRunner 20 is a spring trail race held in and around Reeth, North Yorkshire, with the event base at Low Fremington Village Hall. The course is described as very hilly, mostly single track, and includes a very steep initial ascent, ridge running and several technical descents through mining hushes. The route is fully marked and a GPX file and PDF map are available.

Course, logistics and entry

  • Distances noted: 18.3 km and 20 km (route is described as extended to 20 km for 2026).
    The organisers describe the route as partly hard-packed footpaths and grassy trods with loose rocky sections.

Mandatory kit includes taped-seam waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, and a fully charged mobile phone. Suggested items include map, compass and whistle. Aid stations provide water, Active Root nutrition, sweet and savoury food and electrolyte tablets; vegan and gluten-free options are listed. The event does not supply plastic cups at aid stations.

Car parking is in a nearby working field and may be muddy. Toilets are at the village hall and portable toilets will be on the start field. Post-race hot and cold drinks and cakes are provided as part of entry. Entry fees are listed at £24 for UKA members and £26 for non-members, with an entrant limit of 200. Run into the night on an unmarked rough route to Chapelfell Top in the Silent Night Race. This 6.6 km out and back with 370 m of climb requires navigation, strict kit and pre entry, making it a real test for experienced fell runners.

On 20 December take on the Beyond the Lune Skyline Winter Ultra, a 65 km loop from Kirkby Lonsdale climbing seven summits and finishing with beer or mulled wine and sourdough pizza. Tough, scenic and hugely satisfying.
