CVRR Backyard Ultra 2026

The CVRR Backyard Ultra takes place on July 25, 2026 at the lower field of the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. The route uses forest tracks, fields and river trails around the exhibition grounds and is mostly on soft surfaces with very limited pavement.

Participants run a repeated loop of 6.706 km known as a "yard." Each lap must begin exactly at the top of the hour and be completed within one hour to count. The event continues until only one runner is willing to continue, or until a maximum of 30 yards is reached. If more than one runner completes 30 yards, a mystery challenge will decide the winner. Pacing is not permitted.

The course will be well marked and the first laps will be marshalled. An official timing clock will be at the start line and each completed yard is recorded on a results board. The venue provides water, electricity and washrooms, and participants may set up a personal support station on the grassy, shaded side of the field. Camping for the nights of July 25 and 26 is available for a fee and spaces are limited.

Race entries are listed as sold out, but transfers between competitors are allowed through the race platform for a processing fee. Team entries can include up to five people and team awards will recognize total yards completed. There will be a single award for the overall winner, additional special prizes including Team, Hummingbird male and female, and Best Costume. Drinking water and intermittent snacks will be available, but entrants should bring adequate personal nutrition. The event will follow provincial health orders in effect at the time.
