The trail starts near the top of the bluff, includes steep climbs, switchbacks, roots, and some technical sections, and passes through a cedar spine and a bluff on the Platte River.

Race operations include a mandatory prerace briefing shortly before each race, race packet pickup on race day, and allowance for drop bags. A fully stocked manned aid station is at the start/finish and an unmanned water stop is on course, passed twice per loop. The 100-mile event has a 32-hour time limit. Pacers are allowed for 100-mile runners after 50 miles; pacer rules also apply for the Lucky 13. Calvin Crest is an alcohol-free and smoke-free facility; violation of these rules may lead to removal or disqualification. Prizes are awarded to winners and event items are provided to participants.
