Crater Crawl
Mountain Home, United States • 12 Sep 2026
Event Overview
The Crater Crawl takes place northwest of Mountain Home, Idaho, at the site of the Crater Rings. This location is recognized as a National Natural Landmark and features two symmetrical volcanic pit craters, which are rare geological formations within the continental United States. The event center is located on Main Cinder Butte Road.
Participants can choose between two primary routes that utilize the natural terrain surrounding these volcanic features:
- 6.2 Miles: A route that travels around both adjacent volcanic pit craters.
- 2.9 Miles: An out-and-back course leading to a viewpoint of the east crater.
The 6.2-mile course involves travel around the craters on rough terrain. The 2.9-mile option provides a path to view the geological formations without circumnavigating the entire site. Both distances are open to individuals who wish to run or hike the courses.
The event aims to promote non-motorized outdoor recreation and low-impact use of natural spaces. Proceeds from the registration fees are designated for the Idaho Outdoor Association to support various projects, activities, and educational programs conducted by the organization.
