Coyote Ugly 30k & 50k : Ellijay, GA

The Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k is a trail race held in the Cohutta Wilderness with the start and finish at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp in Ellijay, Georgia. Distances offered:

  • 50K
  • 30K

Both routes begin on a gravel road for almost 2 miles, then climb Pinhoti 2 for about 4 miles to a gravel forest service road and the first aid station. After a short gravel section the course climbs Pinhoti 1 for almost 4 miles and reaches the Bear Creek trail. A 0.2 mile out-and-back leads to an aid stop, followed by a climb across several creek crossings to the top where another aid station sits and the courses split.

The 30k route descends gravel back to Mulberry Gap, passing Bear Creek overlook and Barnes Creek Falls, with a reported total of approximately 19 miles and 2,900 feet of climbing. The 50k route descends briefly, returns to the Bear Creek trail for a rolling double-track loop, passes the trail head aid station, then climbs back via Pinhoti 1 and forest service roads to finish with a reported total near 30 miles and 4,400 feet of climbing.

Aid stations provide typical ultra fare such as water, electrolytes, chips, gummy candy, peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese or quesadillas, avocado tortillas, soda, ginger ale, pickles, and juice. Cutoffs are 10 hours for the 50k and 7 hours for the 30k, which equates to an overall pace requirement of about 20 minutes per mile. Refund and deferral policies include full refunds up to one month before the event, a two year pregnancy deferral for women, and half credit to a future race after 30 days before the event. Volunteers receive free future race entry and event swag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
