Cowboy 200 : races and location
The event offers two distances:
- 200 miles
- 100 miles
Both races use the Cowboy Trail in Nebraska. The 200-mile race travels point-to-point from Norfolk to Valentine along the rail-trail. The course surface is crushed limestone, with short paved sections through towns. The trail is described as non-technical, 100% runnable, and largely flat. The event limits entries to 150 total between both races. The 100-mile race is initially capped at 50 entrants to allow space for up to 100 200-mile entrants. Registration closes on September 14.
Course support, cutoffs and rules
There are 10 full manned aid stations (most offering at least one hot food item and at least one plant-based hot option at stations serving hot food), nine unmanned water-only stations, and three sleep stations. Crewing is not allowed at unmanned aid stations. Cutoffs are 84 hours for the 200-mile and 32 hours for the 100-mile; additional aid-station cutoffs are in the runner’s manual. Pacers are allowed for both races but may only join at full, manned, crew-accessible aid stations; pacers must carry the same required gear as runners and may not carry items for the runner. A shuttle is provided for non-crewed runners; shuttle tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Entry refund and deferral rules set specific credit percentages based on timing, and there are no refunds or bib transfers. Prize and swag details are specified for each distance, including cash awards for 200-mile winners and finishers’ buckles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
