The Cowboy 200 : Norfolk, Nebraska
The Cowboy 200 is a point-to-point ultrarunning event staged on the Cowboy Trail, an old rail corridor in Nebraska. The primary event covers 200 miles from Norfolk to Valentine on a rails-to-trails route with a crushed surface (about 90% crushed gravel). The trail is non-technical, 100% runnable, and flat, passing through rural towns and many former railroad structures and bridges.
Distances:
- 200 mile point to point from Norfolk to Valentine
- 100 mile point to point starting at Atkinson
The 200-mile course includes 11 fully stocked aid stations, at least eight unmanned aid stations, and three designated sleep stations. Runners may sleep in crew vehicles or tents at all full or manned aid stations. Full aid stations require runners to check in and out.
Key rules include an age minimum of 18, a prohibition on muling (pacers may not carry for runners), the requirement that runners and pacers carry required gear, and that assistance is allowed only at full or crewed aid stations. Runners must remain on the designated course and follow local laws. Time cutoffs are listed for each distance, including an 84 hour cutoff for the 200 mile solo and a 32 hour cutoff for the 100 mile solo.
Awards and swag for the 200 mile distance include event apparel, a year specific finisher buckle, and a finish-line beer. Top finishers receive additional awards and cash prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
