The marathon route includes approximately 3500 feet of elevation gain, with about 1000 feet of climbing after mile 18, followed by 2.35 miles of downhill and roughly 2 miles of easier running to the finish. The course is described as well marked; there are eight staffed aid stations stocked with water and Skratch, gels, bananas, oranges, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, and other sugary or salty items. Price includes a technical shirt or tank option, a finisher award, and post race food.

All finishers receive a medal. Awards are given to top overall male and female finishers, masters winners, and first place in each age group. Age brackets include 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and up.

Participants and spectators do not need a Carvins Cove day use pass. The event is headquartered at Sherwood Archers and property rules prohibit dogs on site. In cases of severe weather the municipal permitting authority may alter or cancel the event; a specific marathon section of the course may be modified to two laps of the 25k route if necessary, which can adjust total mileage.
