Walkabout Outfitter Wild Gear Chase
The Walkabout Outfitter Wild Gear Chase is a treasure hunt style race held as part of GO Fest. Using a map and a corresponding cue sheet, participants have two hours to visit as many checkpoints as possible within a two-mile radius of the festival base. Checkpoints include both urban and wilderness locations.
Competitors are ranked by points collected and by time. After the scoring, racers are lined up for entry into the gear tent; one person enters the tent every 15 seconds. Participants may remain in the tent as long as they wish but may leave with only one piece of gear. Prizes range from small items such as water bottles and hats to larger items such as kayaks, fly rods, and coolers.
Race procedures include pre-race check in and a mandatory pre-race meeting, distribution of maps and clue sheets, and a short planning period for route selection. A penalty of five points is applied for each minute a racer returns after the two hour time limit.
The event includes separate divisions for women and men. It is hosted by Walkabout Outfitter, listed for all ages, and takes place in Zone 7 of GO Fest. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
