Event overview
The Chupacabra 50 is a trail running event held at Copper Breaks State Park, Juniper Ridge Trailhead in Quanah, Texas. The course uses park trails and Bull Canyon and includes varied surfaces: wide grass, rock, sandstone, and single-track dirt. The 50-mile course shows about 2500-foot elevation gain. Historic average temperatures for the date range from about 41 to 68 degrees.

Logistics, gear and rules
A water-carrying system is required for all events (minimum 16 ounces). Headlamps are required for the 50-mile event. The ruck event has a minimum carried weight of 25 pounds. Pacers are allowed on the final loop of the 50-mile event. Aid stations provide hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice and ice; there are separate water-and-ice stations. Drop bags can be left at packet pickup and will be transported to the Lone RANGER aid station.
Per park regulation, if it rains on the day of the event the park may cancel the race; the organizer notes a backup course in Wichita Falls may be used. Registration is capped because of park participant limits. Race awards include shirts, finisher medals, a 50-mile finisher buckle, ruck patches, place trophies, and a DFL award.
