Event overview

The Chills in the Mill: Harwoods races take place on January 17, 2026 in Yorktown, VA at Harwoods Mill Park and Oriana Road. The event includes the following distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 5K

Awards are presented onsite to the top three male and top three female finishers in each event. The half marathon has a four-hour time limit and requires participants to be at least 12 years old.

Course, support and logistics

The course mixes wide, open trail roads and single-track bicycle paths. Signage will include directional signs, colored flags or ribbon, and some traffic cones. The half marathon has four aid stations; one of those stations also serves the 5K. All aid stations are self-serve and supply water and electrolytes. Energy gels are available at aid station 3. The course is not maintained or blown off and can retain water, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Pets are not allowed on the race course or post-race field; ADA-recognized service animals are permitted and organizers request advance coordination.

Parking is provided at the McReynolds Athletic Complex, 412 Sports Way, Yorktown, VA 23692, with shuttle service to the start area. There is no parking at the start line. Packet pick-up is onsite at the shuttle drop-off; runners must pick up their own packet, will receive race bibs before running, and may collect shirts after the race. The half is limited to 200 runners and the 5K to 150 runners. Entry fees are non-refundable; deferrals are available by the published deadline for a fee.
