Chester Ultra 100 is a 102 mile trail ultra near Chester with 1,590 m of ascent and a field limit of 400 places. The route links local trails and features including the Sandstone Trail, the Marches Way (beside the River Dee), Helsby Hill, Frodsham, Beeston Castle, Delamere Forest, the Bridgewater Canal, the Shropshire Canal, the Trans-Pennine Trail and the North Cheshire Way. The race has 12 checkpoints along the route and a total event cut-off of 32 hours. GB Race Tracker provides live online GPS tracking for participant locations.

Logistics, entry and rules

The event is held under a UKA permit via the Trail Running Association. The entry fee is £209. Participants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an ultramarathon of at least 50 miles prior to the event. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long-sleeved base layer, a minimum 1 litre water container, a fully charged mobile phone, a survival/thermal bag, a headtorch (minimum 75 lumens), a whistle, a backup light source (minimum 25 lumens) and the GPS tracker issued at registration. One dropbag is permitted at the midrace location which also serves a later checkpoint; maximum dropbag size is 40 x 35 x 40 cm. A single pacer is allowed from the halfway point; pacers must be on foot, self-sufficient and carry the mandatory kit.
