Chester Ultra 100 Mile

The Chester Ultra 100 is an ultramarathon event covering a distance of 102 miles with a total elevation gain of 1590m. The course utilizes a variety of regional trails, including the Sandstone Trail, the Marches Way along the River Dee, and the North Cheshire Way. Participants also pass through Helsby Hill, Frodsham, Beeston Castle, Delamere Forest, and run along segments of the Bridgewater Canal, the Shropshire Canal, and the Trans-Pennine Trail.

The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics Rules. There is a total cut-off time of 32 hours to complete the course. Runners are supported by 12 checkpoints situated at intervals along the route. These stations provide various refreshments such as water, fruit, snacks, and hot food including pasta and soup at specific indoor locations.

Participants must meet specific qualifying criteria to enter:

  • Minimum age of 20 years.
  • Completion of at least one organized 50 mile ultramarathon prior to the event.

The route is marked by the organizers, and all runners are issued a GPS tracker for live progress monitoring. A mandatory kit must be carried at all times, including a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a survival bag, and a headtorch. A single pacer is permitted to join runners from the halfway point at Frodsham Parish Hall.
