Carkeek Cooler Trail Run : Carkeek Park, Seattle
Carkeek Cooler offers two trail distances at Carkeek Park in Seattle as part of the 2026-27 Winter Trail Series. The event is based in the Lower Meadow next to Piper's Creek and the route lies mostly in the forest, with about 85 percent of the course under tree cover.
The trail surface is a mix of fast, wide trail and narrower rolling trail. The course includes flatter sections and some moderate to steep sections, described as roller-coaster style trail that climbs and descends through the park. The 5k is a single loop that follows Piper's Creek Trail, climbs to the head of the valley, traverses older forest on the South Ridge Trail, then descends to the meadow to finish. The 10k is two loops of the 5k route.
Distances offered:
- 5k single loop, 3.1 miles, 480 feet elevation gain
- 10k two loops, 6.2 miles, 960 feet elevation gain
An aid station is located at the start and finish and serves as the halfway point for 10k runners; it provides water, electrolyte drink and assorted carbohydrate or salty snacks. Trails remain open to other users during the event, including pedestrians with pets and cyclists. Participants are responsible for their own safety; in an emergency, call 9-1-1. Headphones should be used so others cannot hear music. Dogs are not allowed on the course under USATF policies. A youth discount of ten dollars applies to runners under twenty. Apparel items are available for purchase at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
