Event Overview

The Carkeek Cooler Trail Run is a trail running event held at Carkeek Park in Seattle, Washington. As the first event in the 2026-27 Winter Trail Series, the race takes participants through a forested environment featuring a mix of wide, rolling trails and narrower, steeper sections. The park offers views of the Olympic Mountains across the water.

Distances and Course

The event features two main distances:

  • 5k: A 3.1-mile single loop with 480 feet of elevation gain.
  • 10k: A 6.2-mile course consisting of two loops of the 5k route, with 960 feet of elevation gain.

The course is approximately 85% forested. The terrain consists of 64% fast, wide trail and 36% narrower rolling trail. The route begins and ends in the Lower Meadow next to Piper's Creek. The 10k participants must start their second loop by a designated cut-off time.

Support and Competition

An aid station is located at the start and finish area, serving as the halfway point for 10k runners. Available supplies include water, electrolyte drinks, and various snacks such as energy bars, gels, chips, and fruit.

The event is part of a larger series competition where participants earn points based on their placement in Female and Open categories. Runners who participate in four or more events in the series are eligible for custom swag and series standings. The event follows USATF policies, and dogs are not permitted on the course. Trails remain open to other public users during the run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
