Canyon De Chelly Ultra
The Canyon De Chelly Ultra takes place on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and is contested over a 55K distance. The race route starts at the entrance to the canyon and proceeds 17 miles up Canyon De Chelly to Spider Rock, passing ancient ruins, petroglyphs and pictographs along the way. After Spider Rock, the course continues up Bat Canyon Trail, gaining about 1,200 feet from the canyon floor to the Spider Rock overlook turnaround, then returns along the same route.
Terrain on the course includes sand, single track, creek crossings and other natural obstacles. The first and last 2.5 miles are in sand and require sustained effort similar to significant climbs. Runners will encounter different perspectives of the canyon on the return leg compared with the outbound leg.
Lottery registration opened on February 1 and closed on February 7 (local time). The drawing was held live on Facebook on February 8. The order of registration did not affect waitlist order. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
