The event is a 55K trail race on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. The course begins at the entrance to the canyon and runs 17 miles up Canyon de Chelly to Spider Rock, then follows Bat Canyon Trail to the Spider Rock overlook turnaround before returning to the start.

Along the route runners pass ancient ruins, petroglyphs, and pictographs. The climb on Bat Canyon Trail gains approximately 1,200 feet from the canyon floor to the Spider Rock overlook. The return section shows many of the same views from a different perspective.

Terrain includes sand, single track, creek crossings and other natural obstacles. The first and last 2.5 miles are in sand, which increases the physical effort required in those sections.
