Caney Fork Ultra, Sparta and Camp Latimer, Tennessee
Caney Fork Ultra is a trail event organized by HardWin Adventures that uses Camp Latimer on the Cumberland Plateau as the central start and finish area. The event features rugged terrain through the Caney Fork and Scotts Gulf region, an area of sandstone and limestone bluffs, overlooks, sinkholes, caves, springs, and waterfalls. Runners pass high overlooks into deep river gorges, descend into shaded hollows carved by flowing water, and travel remote sections with minimal development.
Distances offered
- 50 MILE
- 25K Run
- 25K Ruck
The 50 MILE replaces the former 50K and is presented as a full-day ultra with technical trail, sustained climbs and descents, and long remote stretches. The 25K shares the same rugged terrain in a shorter distance. A rucking division returns with required pack weights: over 150 lb requires 20 lb dry weight, under 150 lb requires 10 lb dry weight. Weigh-ins occur before the race and patches are issued to those who comply.
Camp Latimer provides on-site lodging and facilities on 1,550 acres including tent camping on raised platforms with cots, climate controlled cabins with bunk rooms and private leader rooms, showers, restrooms, and shared gathering spaces. Packet pickup, a pre race briefing and an evening gathering are part of the race weekend schedule. Refunds are allowed more than one month before the event; refunds are not allowed inside the final month. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
