Caney Fork Ultra : course and race weekend

The event runs through the Caney Fork and Scotts Gulf region near Sparta, Tennessee, traversing sandstone and limestone bluffs, sinkholes, caves, waterfalls, high overlooks, and deep river gorges. Much of the course moves through remote, forested hollows and along sections where water flows underground and re-emerges at springs and cliff faces. The landscape reflects long geologic processes and has served as a corridor for Indigenous peoples and early settlers.

Distances offered:

  • 50 Mile featured distance, replaces the former 50K
  • 25K Run shorter loop with technical trail and elevation change
  • 25K Ruck walking or hiking with a weighted pack

Both distances start and finish at Camp Latimer on the Cumberland Plateau in Spencer, Tennessee. Camp Latimer provides tent platform camping with cots, climate-controlled cabins with bunk rooms, showers, restrooms, and shared gathering spaces for a race-weekend atmosphere. Packet pickup is available Friday evening and on race morning, with a pre-race briefing and a Friday evening gathering planned.

The 50 Mile is presented as a full-day ultra with technical trail, sustained climbs and remote sections; the 25K covers similar terrain in a shorter distance. A detailed race layout with aid station locations, crew access notes, and drop bag details will be sent about one week before the event.

Refunds are allowed more than one month before the race; refunds are not allowed within one month. Rucking weight rules: over 150 lb carry 20 lb dry weight, under 150 lb carry 10 lb dry weight. Weigh-ins are required before the race and random course checks may occur; participants are expected to follow the honor system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
