Byron Rainforest Run 2026
The Byron Rainforest Run takes place on 27 June 2026 around Minyon Falls in Nightcap National Park. The event is hosted by Byron Bay Runners and is listed as sold out.
The trails run on the slopes of the caldera of the Wollumbin shield volcano through World Heritage rainforest. Course terrain includes single track and graded fire trails, multiple water crossings, boggy sections, slippery rocks and exposed roots, steep ascents and ridge-line views over the falls and surrounding forest. Courses are marked with coloured tape and aid stations are provided at the event hub and roughly every 6–8 km.
Available race distances:
- 13.1 km Nightcap Nudge - 496 m elevation; ages 14 and up
- 26.5 km The Postie’s Round - 921 m elevation; ages 16 and up
- 50.8 km Minyon Ultra - 2,002 m elevation; ages 18 and up
Mandatory equipment varies by distance but includes items such as a fully charged mobile phone, a specified snake bandage, and minimum water carry for longer distances. The Minyon Ultra requires additional items including a headlamp and waterproof layer. Competitors without the correct mandatory equipment will not be permitted to race.
The event is conducted as a leave no trace event with a sustainability focus. Parking at the event hub and nearby campground is very limited and a small number of campsites are available at nearby Rummery Park. Results are intended to be published within 48 hours.
