Brandon Vertical

Brandon Vertical is an uphill mountain race on Brandon in County Kerry held on Friday 17 July 2026. The route covers 3.90 km with approximately 750 m of ascent and uses the Cosán na Naomh pilgrim path from the Baile Breac carpark for the first 3 km, then deviates for additional ascent and some scrambling after the eighth station of the cross. The race finishes at the summit cross. Route marking is not provided and GPS devices are permitted. Marshalls will be stationed at key points to keep athletes on the Vertical route rather than the Brandon Ridge route.

Entries open on 13 July 2026 at 21:00 and close on 16 July 2026 at 18:00. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Entry is limited to 250 participants.

The event carries a difficulty rating of 9 (3,3,3) and is described as difficult terrain with more than 500 m of ascent. Participants must carry mandatory Level C kit. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL of water, emergency food, and a map and compass. The final kit list to be carried during the race will be confirmed at registration and may be adjusted for conditions.
