Brandon Vertical
Event Information
The Brandon Vertical is a mountain running event in County Kerry, Ireland, scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026.
Route Details
The course is a vertical route covering 3.90 km with a total climb of 750 m. It follows the Cosán na Naomh pilgrim path from the start at Baile Breac carpark for 3km. Runners then deviate from this path for additional vertical gain and some scrambling after the 8th station of the cross. Marshals will be stationed at key points. The race finish is at the summit cross. The route is not marked, but GPS devices are allowed.
Mandatory Kit
A Level C (Advanced) kit list is required. All runners must bring the following items to the race:
- Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored
- Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
- Waterproof full leg cover
- Means to carry at least 500 mL of water
- Emergency food
- Map of the route/area
- Compass The specific kit to be carried during the race will be finalized on the day based on conditions and announced at registration. Runners must also have a means to carry all the kit. Random checks may be conducted, and failure to have required items can lead to denied entry or disqualification.
Participation & Logistics
The event is part of the Irish Uphill League. Registration opens on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 21:00 and closes on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 18:00. The entry limit is 250 runners.
