Bowland Ultra & Trail Half, 9 January 2027

The event in Lancaster, Lancashire comprises an unmarked winter trail ultra and a trail half marathon that share the same start and finish sections. The organisers describe the ultra as a mixed-surface route that includes vehicle tracks, flowing trails, road sections, icy patches, boggy terrain and sustained climbs.

Distances and ascent:

  • 41 miles with 6,131 ft ascent
  • 13 miles with 2,021 ft ascent

The ultra route contains sections that can be fast and runnable on vehicle tracks as well as areas requiring slower travel through boggy or icy ground and steep climbs. The trail half follows the same opening and closing sections as the ultra, providing a shorter course on largely the same terrain and offering a winter racing experience on part of the full route.

Previous editions took place in 2024, 2025 and 2026; 2024 feedback praised the event organisation. The event also aims to raise funds for charity. Supplementary material on route details, environmental and social impact, and frequently asked questions is available from the organiser.
