B'O'water Pre-E2C : event description

This is a four hour team orienteering trail event held in Head Of St Margarets Bay, NS, Canada. Teams must include at least one teammate and teammates must remain within earshot of each other throughout the event. The start and finish location is emailed to participants the Thursday before the event.

Maps are handed out at check in and route choice is left to each team. The course features orange and white orienteering flags placed around the loop, often off trail or at intersections. Each control has a unique hole punch which teams use to mark their provided punch card. Controls on the map include directions to their location.

Scoring assigns point values to controls based on difficulty and distance, and points are deducted for each minute a team finishes late. The time limit is four hours. GPS devices are allowed but are described as contrary to the event spirit for navigation. The event is presented as a practical opportunity to use map and compass skills.

Mandatory gear includes a fully charged phone with capability to call if late, compass, matches or lighter, knife, a small first aid kit, jacket, head covering such as a buff or toque, and food and drink. Registration fees are listed in Canadian dollars. No refunds or deferrals are offered, though registered spots may be transferred to another person.
