Bollihope Carrs Fell Race

Bollihope Carrs is a medium-length (BM) fell race covering about 10.5 km with approximately 380 m of ascent. The venue is Bollihope Quarry car park, around 3 km south west of Frosterley in Weardale, Co. Durham (grid reference NZ 008 348; What3Words: invest.because.octagon). The route runs west along the river, climbs over rough ground to the summit of Bollihope Carrs, descends east to the summit of Catterick, then returns to the start by a steep descent. The course is unmarked; map and compass navigation will be required in poor visibility and GPS should not be used.

Pre-entry is available via SI Entries, and entry on the day is possible if spaces remain. Fees are listed as £6 for members and £7 for non-members; a limit of 50 entries applies due to land owner or Natural England restrictions. Minimum age is 18. Teams are permitted in the specified formats of four men or three ladies per team.

Full FRA kit is required, including a map (provided), compass, whistle, hat, gloves, waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, and waterproof trousers with taped seams. Poles are not permitted. The event holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA and will count towards the NECAA North East Fell Running Championships for 2026.
