Blue Goat Backyard Marathon 2026

This is the 8th edition of the Blue Goat Backyard Marathon trail race. The event is set on a private property, described as the "backyard" of a location in the Blue Mountains.

The event offers several distance options. Runners can choose from:

  • 5 km, which uses a specific 5 km loop course.
  • 10.5 km, 21.1 km (Half Marathon), 30 km, 42.2 km (Marathon), and 50 km, which all use a 10.5 km loop course.
  • A Last One Standing Endurance Run (LOSER), which also uses the 5 km loop. Participants run one 5 km lap every hour until only one runner remains.

The Last One Standing event starts at 12:00 PM on Saturday. All other distance races have their own specific start times on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Race organizers have outlined a mandatory kit list for participants. This includes a snake bite compression bandage, a 500 ml water bottle or flask, and a mobile phone. A headlamp is required for those running at night. Sunscreen and a cap are recommended. The course is well-marked with flagging tape, arrows, and signage. Aid stations will provide water and Tailwind Nutrition products.

Participants are instructed to carry all their rubbish off the course. They must notify event staff if they withdraw. Runners are asked to be mindful of others on the trail and to watch for wildlife, which may include snakes, lizards, wallabies, and goats. The event has a field limit of 200 entries.
