Narrowneck Night Run

The Narrowneck Night Run is a trail event held at Narrowneck Lookout in the Blue Mountains with two out and back course options. The routes follow the Narrowneck Firetrail; runners are walked from the lookout carpark down the stairs to the trail start and return to finish at the lookout carpark at the top of the stairs.

Distances

  • 14 km short course with a turnaround at 6.88 km
  • 24.7 km full course with a turnaround at 12.2 km

The course is generally straightforward and marked with pink tape only where runners may go wrong. Visibility can be reduced by mist. Elevation gain is listed as +475 m for the 14 km and +710 m for the 24.7 km. Aid is located at the 12.2 km mark and supplies water, electrolyte, fruit, lollies, chips and coke; aid stations have emergency pads, tampons, hand sanitiser and are in contact with First Aid. There are no cups at the aid stations so runners should carry their own collapsible cup or flask.

Mandatory gear is weather dependent but always includes at least 500 ml of water, a breathable waterproof jacket, an emergency space blanket, a beanie or buff, a thermal long sleeve top and a headlamp. The event enforces a No Water No Result rule. Portaloos are provided at the start finish area and a toilet is available at the fire tower turn point. Headphones are not allowed. Walking poles are permitted with care. Parking is in surrounding residential streets; participants are asked to be mindful of noise and driveway access. Volunteer roles are available for aid stations and course marshalling. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
