Black Lung Ultra - Nordegg, Alberta

The Black Lung Ultra returns for its third annual edition on September 12, 2026 in Nordegg, AB, at the entrance to the David Thompson corridor through the Rocky Mountains. The race is set in and around the historic mining town of Nordegg, which features local heritage sites and tourism amenities.

The main event is a rugged 62 km ultra marathon staged in three legs. The route traverses mountain ridges and areas connected to the town's mining history. The race name references the hazards of long shifts in coal dust and darkness.

Registration options shown include a Solo 62k entry and a Team 62k entry. Published fees are $265.97 for the Solo 62k and $233.66 for the Team 62k; listed prices include mandatory charges and fees.

A youth event called The Minor Miners Coal Run is part of the weekend program. This 1.7 km kids race is for participants aged 15 and under and runs through the historic Nordegg Collieries. Volunteer roles for the kids race include tasks such as distributing medals and assisting with food service.
