Black Barn Backyard Ultra

Black Barn Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra event held on October 3rd, 2026 as part of the Freedom Ultra series. The format consists of repeated one-hour laps called "yards"; runners continue to complete yards until only one runner completes a yard that no one else can match.

A cash prize jar grows by $100 at the start of each new yard. Prize examples listed include a $2,400 total at 100 miles and $4,800 at 200 miles. The final accumulated prize is split 75% to the winner and 25% to the runner-up. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, no winner is declared.

Awards and finisher items include a custom engraved belt buckle for runners who complete 24 laps (100 miles). All participants receive a custom DNF medal engraved with laps or miles completed, a t-shirt (limited for registrations after September 1), a sticker kit, and a cowbell.

Key race rules require runners to be present in the starting corral at the start of each yard and to start together at the bell; late starts are not allowed. Competitors may not leave the course during a yard except for restrooms, and no outside aid or crewing is permitted during a yard. Each yard must be completed within its allotted time to count. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food will be available at the start/finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
