Big Brad Ultras

Trail Monster Running presents the 16th running of the Pounder and the 3rd running of the Half-Pint on September 13, 2026, on the trails of Bradbury Mountain State Park and the surrounding area.

The race uses a 15.5 mile loop of mostly single track that goes through Bradbury Mountain State Park, over Tryon Mountain, and around Snow Man's loop. The course includes steep, technical terrain with rocks and roots and very little flat running. The loop contains about 1/2 mile of paved road and 1/4 mile of dirt road. Fall foliage and vistas are noted features along the route.

Distances and elevation

  • 25K (Half-Pint) : one 15.5 mile lap, about 2,000 feet gain
  • 50K (Pounder) : two 15.5 mile laps, about 4,500 feet gain

Well-stocked aid stations are staffed by experienced ultra runners; the longest distance between aid stations is just over six miles. Drop bags may be left at the start/finish area and can be accessed twice during the race. The event is described as cupless-ish and asks runners to bring a reusable cup. All finishers receive a finishers glass and the 50K solo winner receives an Adirondack chair. Each race is capped at 100 participants. A portion of registration fees is donated to the Royal River Conservation Trust.

Logistics and rules note camping is available at Bradbury Mountain State Park and other lodging is available in nearby Freeport. Race rules include staying on marked trails, no littering, no pacers, and no headphones unless bone conduction. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
