Beaverfoot Trail Run
The Beaverfoot event is a trail running competition held in Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The course traverses the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains and utilizes several specific trails, including the Beaver Creek, Lookout Mountain, Deer Crossing, and Skyline trails. The terrain consists of single-track paths with surfaces featuring rocks, roots, and dirt.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 11 Miler
- 22 Miler
The event is characterized by significant vertical gain. The 11 Miler route includes over 2,500 feet of elevation, while the 22 Miler route involves over 5,000 feet of elevation. Because the race takes place in a remote area, all runners are required to carry a cell phone and a water carrying system with a recommended capacity of 32 oz. Headlamps are mandatory for both distances during dark hours.
Logistics for the 11 Miler include an optional shuttle service from the main event area to a specific start line, after which participants run back to the parking area. The 22 Miler starts and finishes at the same location without a shuttle. The course includes multiple aid stations and hydration stations providing water, electrolytes, and snacks. All participants receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal, with trophies awarded to top finishers and a special trophy for the final finisher of the longer distance.
