Beaver Flat 50

Beaver Flat 50 is a 50 kilometre trail race with 2255 metres of vertical ascent. The route is 100% trail, following very narrow animal paths and including rocky, sandy and wet sections. Vegetation and obstacles on the course include cacti, juniper bushes and water crossings; scratched shins and ankle strain are possible in places.

The course is organised into six named legs:

  • Horseshoe: 11.2 km, 450 m elevation
  • Spring Coulee: 4.8 km, cumulative 16 km, 178 m elevation
  • Weetman: 7 km, cumulative 23 km, 444 m elevation
  • Goodwin: 9.5 km, cumulative 33 km, 396 m elevation
  • Beaver Banter: 10.4 km, cumulative 43.5 km, 449 m elevation
  • Home Before Dark: 6 km, cumulative 49.5 km, 297 m elevation

Aid stations are located near 11 km, 16 km, 23 km, 33 km and 43.5 km. The Goodwin House aid station at 33 km handles drop bags and is the last practical place to withdraw from the race. Feet get wet a few kilometres before Goodwin House, and dry shoes and socks can be retrieved from a drop bag. The race allows a total of 10.5 hours to finish and receive a finisher badge.
