Beast Of Burden - Winter

The event offers three distances:

  • 100 miles
  • 50 miles
  • 25 miles

The course begins at Wide Water's Marina on the south side of the Erie Canal in Lockport, New York. The basic loop is a 25 mile out and back; 100 mile entrants complete four loops and 50 mile entrants complete two loops. Runners leave the marina onto a paved trail for about one mile, cross a historic drawbridge, then continue along the canal towpath toward the middle aid station. From that aid station it is roughly six more miles to the turnaround point on the loop.

There are three aid stations along the course. Stations are stocked with a variety of food and cold beverages and use Hylē Hydration and Huma Gels. Typical offerings include basic ultra foods such as PB&J, pretzels, chips, candy, fruit, broth and perogies, and later items such as pizza and burgers. Hot beverages and soup are available at times. Organizers note efforts to accommodate vegan and gluten free options.

Wide Water's Marina provides restrooms, showers, and warming shelters for participants. Crew and pacer responsibilities fall to the runner; failure to follow crew rules can result in disqualification or removal. 100 mile entrants must have completed at least one official 50 mile race, with verification through UltraSignUp.
