Beast of Burden - Winter

Beast of Burden - Winter is an ultra running event in Lockport, New York, held on and alongside the historic Erie Canal. The event offers three distance options: 100 mile, 50 mile, and 25 mile. The course begins at Wide Water’s Marina and follows a paved trail for about one mile, crosses a historic draw bridge, and continues on the canal towpath to a middle aid station and a turnaround several miles further.

Organizers describe the course as flat and note winter conditions can include snow cover and sub zero temperatures; past editions reported over two feet of snow in the first event and over a foot in a later event. Facilities at Wide Water’s Marina include restrooms, showers, and warming shelters. Aid stations provide hot and cold beverages and a range of foods including grilled cheese sandwiches, warm chicken noodle soup, pizza, pancakes, donuts, and standard sports drinks and water.

The event offers a "Double Beast Buckle" to any 100 mile participant who finishes both the Winter BoB 100 and the Summer BoB 100 in the same calendar year. Organizers report the event generally sells out. Registration closes Thu, Feb 5 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
