Beast of Burden - Summer

The Beast of Burden - Summer on August 15, 2026 in Lockport, NY offers ultramarathon distances along the historic Erie Canal towpath. Athletes may choose from the following distances:

  • 100 Miler
  • 50 Miler
  • 25 Miler

The course begins at Wide Water's Marina, where runners have access to showers, restrooms and an on-site aid station. The route follows a paved trail for about one mile, crosses the canal via one of Lockport's historic draw bridges, and continues along the Erie Canal Towpath.

Aid stations are positioned along the route. After the marina runners cover approximately six miles to a fully stocked aid station with a shaded area. From there athletes proceed about 5.5 miles to the Village of Middleport, reach a third aid station and then turn around. Aid stations provide a range of nutrition and drinks, including Heed, water, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes and donuts. Volunteers staff the stations and support runners on course.

A Double Beast option is offered for participants involved with both the winter and summer events. Any 100 mile participant who completes both the Winter Beast 100 and the Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year is eligible to receive a Double Beast Buckle.
