Beast of Burden - Summer

Beast of Burden - Summer is an ultramarathon event in Lockport, NY that offers three distance options along the historic Erie Canal towpath. Runners start at Wide Water's Marina, where showers, restrooms and a fully stocked aid station are available.

The course follows a paved trail for approximately 1 mile, crosses the canal on one of Lockport's historic draw bridges, and continues along the Erie Canal towpath. After about 6 miles from the start, participants reach a second fully stocked aid station with opportunities to rest out of the sun. A further 5.5 miles leads to the Village of Middleport, where a third aid station and a turn-around are located.

Aid stations are staffed by volunteers and provide a range of foods and drinks, including Heed, water, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes and donuts.

The event includes the following distances:

  • 100 Mile
  • 50 Mile
  • 25 Mile

A Double Beast Buckle is awarded to any 100 mile participant who completes both the Winter Beast 100 and the Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
