Beast of Burden - Summer

The Summer Beast of Burden is an ultramarathon event in Lockport, NY held along the historic Erie Canal Towpath. Athletes may choose one of the following distances:

  • 100 Miler
  • 50 Miler
  • 25 Miler

The event starts at Wide Water’s Marina, where participants have access to showers, restrooms and a fully stocked aid station. Runners follow a paved trail for about 1 mile, cross the canal on one of Lockport's historic draw bridges, then continue along the Erie Canal Towpath.

The course includes additional staffed aid stations. After roughly 6 miles runners reach a fully stocked station and a shaded area, then continue about 5.5 miles to the Village of Middleport for a third aid station and a turnaround. Aid station offerings listed by the organizer include Heed, water, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes and donuts.

For 100 mile participants there is a "Double Beast Buckle" awarded to those who finish both the Winter Beast 100 and the Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year. Registration closes on Mon, Aug 10 at 11:59PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Experience a scenic 5K trail run through the vineyards of Spring Lake Winery in Lockport. Enjoy groomed trails and a post race celebration complete with a keepsake wine glass for all participants.

A six hour run or walk on the Amherst Bike Path where participants cover as many laps as they choose. USATF certified half and full marathon options run concurrently and all finishers receive a medal.

An annual St. Catharines event supporting the Niagara Rankin Cancer Run, featuring a historic half marathon along 12 Mile Creek Trail and a 7 km trail race using the latter part of the course.
