Beast of Burden - Summer
The event in Lockport, NY offers ultramarathon distances along the historic Erie Canal towpath. Athletes choose from the following distances:
- 100 Miler
- 50 Miler
- 25 Miler
The start area is Wide Water's Marina, where runners have access to showers, restrooms and a fully stocked aid station. After leaving the marina, the course follows a paved trail for approximately 1 mile, crosses the canal on one of Lockport's historic draw bridges, then continues on the Erie Canal towpath.
Runners reach an aid station at roughly 6 miles, which provides shade and a place to recover. From there the course continues about 5.5 miles to the Village of Middleport, where a third aid station marks the turn-around point.
Aid stations list includes Heed, water, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes and donuts. Volunteers staff the stations and provide food and support along the course.
A Double Beast Buckle is awarded to any 100 mile participant who completes both the Winter Beast 100 and the Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year. Registration closes Mon, Aug 10 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
