Event Overview
The Bear Trap Trail Races are trail running events in Settlement Canyon near Tooele, Utah. The event offers three distances: a marathon, a 23k race, and a 10k race.
Course Details
The course uses a loop system within the Left Hand Fork of Settlement Canyon. The marathon distance completes three distinct loops (PURPLE, BLUE, and RED), featuring varied terrain including forested singletrack, rugged dirt roads, and steep ridgelines. The 23k race combines the PURPLE and BLUE loops. The 10k race consists of the PURPLE loop alone. Runners will encounter exposed bench trails and enjoy views of Tooele Valley and the surrounding peaks. The event's high point reaches approximately 9,600 feet above sea level, and the event takes place at elevations between 5,300 and 9,600 feet.
Aid Stations
A central aid station at the start/finish area will be available for all distances. For the marathon, there is an additional aid station around mile 18.3. The aid station provides water, electrolyte drinks, assorted fruits, and savory goods. Runners are permitted to use personal drop bags at the start/finish area.
Rules and Notes
There are overall time cutoffs for each distance: 9 hours for the marathon, 5 hours for the 23k, and 2 hours for the 10k. The course is closed; runners who go off-course must re-enter at the point of deviation. Participants are asked to study the course maps in advance.
