The Bear Trap Trail Races take place in Settlement Canyon near Tooele, UT. This is the 9th annual running of the event. Registration opens February 1, 2026. The event is USATF sanctioned.
Course details
The event uses three looped courses that return to a central Start/Finish Area, which serves as the only aid station for on-course support. Organizers recommend that participants carry adequate hydration, food, and gear for inclement weather.
Distances offered:
- Marathon - approximately 26.5 miles, ~8,000 ft total vert.
- 23K - approximately 14.8 miles, ~3,500 ft total vert.
- 10K - approximately 6.2 miles, ~1,800 ft total vert.
Loop descriptions:
- Loop A: ~6.20 miles, ~1,800 ft vert; ~87% single-track; purple course markings. Trails include Ridge Trail, Bottom/Muddy Trail, and Left Hand Fork Trail.
- Loop B: ~8.6 miles, ~1,700 ft vert; ~78% single-track; blue course markings. Trails include Dark Trail, Old Kennecott Road, Bench Trail, and Left Hand Fork Trail.
- Loop C: ~8.2 miles, ~1,600 ft vert; ~2% single-track and 67% double-track; red course markings. Trails include Skyline Ridge Trail, foothills ATV trails, and Left Hand Fork Road.
Marathon details: the marathon consists of Loops A, B, and C and includes a 3.5-mile out-and-back to the 9,600 ft Tooele Peak summit from Bear Trap Pass. Trail surface mixes and total percentages vary by distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
