Bear Trap Trail Races

Bear Trap Trail Races are set for 10 October 2026 in Settlement Canyon, Tooele, Utah. The event uses three distinct loops through Left Hand Fork, Center Ridge, and the foothills above Settlement Canyon Reservoir. Terrain includes forested singletrack, rugged dirt roads, exposed bench trails, and steeper deserty ridgelines at elevations between about 5,300 and 9,600 feet.

The event distances are:

  • Marathon, approximately 26.5 miles, approximately 8,000 feet vert
  • 23k, approximately 14.8 miles, approximately 3,500 feet vert
  • 10k, approximately 6.2 miles, approximately 1,800 feet vert

Loop A is about 6.2 miles with roughly 1,800 feet of ascent and is predominantly singletrack. Loop B is about 8.6 miles with roughly 1,700 feet of ascent and mixes singletrack, double-track, and dirt road. Loop C is about 8.2 miles with roughly 1,600 feet of ascent and includes double-track, dirt road, and some off-trail ridge traversing. The marathon includes all three loops plus a 3.5 mile out-and-back summit section to Tooele Peak for the marathon distance.

Aid is provided only at the Start/Finish Area and will include water, electrolyte, fruit, and savory items which may present a risk for those with food allergies. Drop bags may be left at the Start/Finish Area or in a vehicle but the organizer is not responsible for lost or damaged items. The course is closed to shortcuts and animals are not permitted on course or at the Start/Finish Area. The event is USATF sanctioned.
