Bear Trap Trail Races
Bear Trap Trail Races take place in Settlement Canyon near Tooele, UT and are organized by Tooele Trail Racing. The event offers three distances that use a combination of forested singletrack, double-track, dirt roads, and exposed ridgeline trails through the Oquirrh Mountains and foothills above Settlement Canyon Reservoir.
The course uses three unique loops that return to the Start/Finish Area as the aid station. Loop A is approximately 6.20 miles with about 1,800 ft of vertical gain (87% single-track, 3% double-track, 10% dirt road) and uses Ridge Trail, Bottom/Muddy Trail, and Left Hand Fork Trail with purple markings. Loop B is approximately 8.6 miles with about 1,700 ft of vertical gain (78% single-track, 13% double-track, 8% dirt road, 1% pavement) and uses Dark Trail, Old Kennecott Road, Bench Trail, and Left Hand Fork Trail with blue markings. Loop C is approximately 8.2 miles with about 1,600 ft of vertical gain (2% single-track, 67% double-track, 29% dirt road, 2% pavement) and follows Skyline Ridge Trail, foothills ATV trails, and Left Hand Fork Rd with red markings.
The Marathon combines Loops A, B, and C plus a 3.5 mile out-and-back summit to Tooele Peak at about 9,600 feet for a total near 26.5 miles and roughly 8,000 ft of vertical. There are no on-course aid stations other than the Start/Finish Area; participants are advised to carry adequate hydration, food, and gear for changing weather. The event is USATF sanctioned.
