About the race
Butterfield Blitz Backyard is a Backyard Ultra held at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, Utah on May 15, 2027. The event uses a loop format on the Butterfield Trail system with an event parking and finish area that accommodates tents and spectators.
Runners complete a single loop of 4.167 miles once every hour for one of three race durations: 4 hours, 8 hours, or 12 hours. Backyard rules apply: a loop must be finished within the hour to receive credit and runners who do not complete a loop or who choose not to start a loop are removed. Blitz Backyards also record each loop time and determine placement first by distance completed and then by cumulative lap time for runners tied on distance.
The course is marked with pink flags, cones, and signs. Free parking is available, with a large open grassy area designated for vehicles. The finish area is stocked for runners and offers room for chairs, tents, and small gatherings. Aid at the finish includes snacks, an electrolyte drink (Tailwind), Great Harvest Bread at the conclusion of the 4-hour event, and pizza at the conclusion of the 8- and 12-hour events. Live results update individual lap times and cumulative totals during the race. All runners who complete at least one loop receive a finisher’s medal; runners who complete 12 loops receive a leather patch beanie recognizing the 50-mile total.
Packet pickup is available at Salt Lake Running Company in Sandy, and free race photos will be provided without watermarks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
