The event uses mostly single-track trails (about 90% single-track) with sandstone-strewn routes, views of the Tennessee River Gorge, hemlock and rhododendron vegetation, and cascades and coves typical of the Cumberland Plateau region. The event has run for multiple years and includes on-site vendor demos from outdoor footwear brands.
Course, logistics and services
Both races start and finish at the Signal Mountain Soccer Fields behind Signal Mountain High School on Sam Powell Road. Aid stations are stocked with sports drinks (Powerade or Gatorade), snacks such as chips, pretzels, fruit snacks, gels, cookies, and sodas. There are no crews or drop bags allowed. The 50K has a 10-hour overall cutoff and intermediate checkpoint cutoffs; the 10 Miler has a 4-hour cutoff with an intermediate cutoff. Packet pickup is available the day before and at the start/finish location on race day. Runners receive a shirt, a post-race meal, and on-site beer from a local brewery. Camping is available on the soccer fields for a fee; RVs are allowed but there are no hookups. A portion of proceeds benefits local athletics and rescue groups.
