Box Turtle Express Trail Races
Box Turtle Express is a trail race held on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, at the McKee Employee Recreation Center in Collegedale, Tennessee. The event uses trails on Bauxite Ridge and includes multiple distances with measured elevation gain.
- 15K (9.3 Miles) - single-track loop on Bauxite Ridge, +750' elevation
- 8K (5 Miles) - trail loop, +450' elevation
- 1K (0.6 Miles) Kids Run - paved 0.6 mile, for ages 10 and under
Aid stations are placed on course and stocked with electrolyte hydration, water, and trail snacks. The event is cup-less; runners must carry their own hydration such as a water bottle, soft flask, running belt, or hydration pack.
Course intersections are marked with ground-mounted signs and confirmation signs down trail. Volunteers will staff major turns. Parking is organized at the MERC main lot and lower overflow lots, with an additional overflow area a short walk from the venue. Several spectator vantage points are accessible via a short hike from the start and finish areas.
Awards and prizes are offered for overall podium places in the main races, and the kids run includes a custom t-shirt and finisher medal. Personal audio devices are strongly discouraged to promote trail awareness. Pets are not allowed on the race course. The race will proceed in rain unless conditions are unsafe; there is no refund policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
