Rabid Raccoon 25k - Chattanooga, TN
The Rabid Raccoon is a middle-distance trail race hosted by Bad Beard Events in Chattanooga, Tennessee, held on January 17, 2026. The course starts at Laurel Point on Raccoon Mountain and runs across the north and west sides of the mountain. Named trails on the route include Megawatt, Grindstone Ridge, Lower Chunky, Live Wire 1 and 2, High Voltage, and Split Rock. The race direction changes each year; the 2026 course is run counter clockwise.
All entrants receive a shirt, a finisher prize, and post race food. The event is cupless, so all runners must bring their own hydration pack or hand held bottle. There are two aid stations stocked with water, Gatorade, and common trail snacks such as granola bars, gels, and gummy bears. Medical coverage is provided by the Chattanooga Hamilton County Rescue Service, which operates on a donation basis.
Awards are presented to the first three overall male and female finishers. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Volunteers support course operations and are an important part of the event. A portion of proceeds benefits SORBA Chattanooga, an organization focused on land access, trail preservation, and new trail development in the Chattanooga area.
Packet pickup is available January 16 at Hello Monty on Main Street and on race day at the start/finish area. There are no refunds and bib numbers may not be transferred; bib swapping leads to disqualification. Recommended local accommodations include the Crash Pad, Hotel Indigo, Mayor’s Mansion B&B, The Moxy, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campgrounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
