ARI Oxbow Adventure Trek and 5K
The ARI Oxbow Adventure Trek and 5K takes place on June 6, 2026, at the Guard Archaeological Preserve (GAP) and the Oxbow area in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The event combines a 5k run/walk route through Oxbow trails that finishes at the GAP with an Adventure Trek that visits multiple stops along GAP trails.
The Adventure Trek is an untimed, team-based exploration featuring six stops with hands-on challenges that simulate archaeological research and preservation activities. Teams may receive recognition for creative completion of the final challenge stop, best team costumes, and most creative team name. Participants select a preferred start time during registration and will receive detailed overviews of the stops before the event.
A single registration provides entry to both the 5k and the Adventure Trek but participants may choose to take part in one or both. Entry categories and fees include Individual, Adult Pairs, Student Team, and Family Team (family teams may include up to two adults and up to four children age 12 and under). Festival general admission is available separately. T-shirts are included in registration while supplies last; sizes should be reserved at registration.
The event also features a public festival with food trucks, local vendors, live music, community booths, fundraising activities including access to an atlatl and spear range, and displays such as experimental gardens. Parking and shuttle service are available, and handicapped parking is provided both at the starting line and at the GAP. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
