ARI Oxbow Adventure Trek and 5K : Lawrenceburg, IN
The event combines an Oxbow 5K run/walk and an Adventure Trek at the Guard Archaeological Preserve (GAP) and the Oxbow area in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Single registration covers entry to both the 5K and the Adventure Trek; participation in both is optional.
The 5K follows trails through the Oxbow and finishes at the GAP. Prizes are awarded to top finishers and for the Best Archaeologist Costume. Finishers who complete the 5K Scavenger Hunt are entered into a raffle for an Annual Membership to the Oxbow Conservancy.
The Adventure Trek is an untimed, team-based exploration with six stops along GAP trails. Each stop features hands-on challenges designed to simulate archaeological research and preservation activities. Teams can receive recognition for the final challenge, team costumes, and creative team names. Start times for trek teams are selected during registration and launches are staggered.
Additional event elements include a public festival with food trucks, local vendors, live music, community booths, fundraising activities such as a dunk tank and an atlatl and spear range, and access to experimental gardens with the land stewardship team present.
