Windgather Fell Race (Buxton)

The Windgather Fell Race is an off road event of approximately a half marathon distance, listed as 21.5 km / 13.5 miles with about 760 m of climb and descent. The route runs around the tracks and trails of the Goyt Valley and includes an ascent to Shining Tor. The course is marked at junctions, but navigation is the responsibility of each competitor; free maps are available online or at race headquarters.

The event is organised by a local running club and proceeds are donated to Buxton Rotary for local and wider good causes. This edition is noted as the 20th anniversary and a memento is provided to pre-entries. Minimum age for entry is 18 years.

Mandatory kit follows Fell Runners Association guidance and must be carried: waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat and gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and basic first aid kit are strongly recommended. Water is provided at two points on the route and hot food and drinks are available at the finish.

Parts of the course may be muddy so footwear with good grip is required. Entry fees are stated for pre-entry and a higher on-the-day fee may apply if places remain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
