Windgather Fell Race

Windgather Fell Race is a fell running event held in the Goyt Valley area near Buxton, with race HQ at the Burbage Institute. The course is roughly 21.5 km (about 13.5 miles) with approximately 760 m of ascent and descent. The route is almost entirely off road and includes sections up to Shining Tor.

The course is marked at junctions but competitors are responsible for navigation. Free maps are available online or at race HQ. Water is provided at two points on the route and hot food and drinks are available at the finish. The ground may be muddy in parts, so footwear with good grip is recommended.

Full Fell Runners Association kit must be carried: waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and some basic first aid kit are strongly recommended.

Entry is by pre-entry with an entry fee of £14.00; on-the-day entry may be available at a higher fee. Minimum age to enter is 18. The event marks its 20th anniversary and a memento is provided to pre-entries. All race proceeds go to Buxton Rotary for charitable causes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
