Andrew Heywood Memorial - Windgather

Windgather Fell Race

The Windgather Fell Race is an off-road running event based at the Burbage Institute, Buxton. The route is a scenic tour around the tracks and trails of the Goyt Valley and reaches Shining Tor. The course is waymarked at junctions but runners retain responsibility for navigation; free maps are available at race HQ and online.

The distance is approximately 21.5 km (13.5 miles) with about 760 m of ascent and descent. The course is almost entirely off road and may be muddy in parts, so footwear with good grip is required. Water is provided at two points on the route and hot food and drinks are available at the finish.

Competitors must carry full Fell Runners Association kit: a waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and an attached hood, hat and gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and a small first aid kit are strongly recommended.

Entry details in the event information include an age minimum of 18, a pre-entry fee of £14 and a possible on-day fee of £16 if places are available. The race marks its 20th anniversary and all proceeds go to Buxton Rotary for charitable causes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
