Andrew Heywood Memorial - Windgather Fell Race

The event is an approximately half marathon distance of 21.5 km / 13.5 miles with about 760 m of ascent and descent. The route is almost entirely off road and runs around the tracks and trails of the Goyt Valley, including an ascent to Shining Tor. The course is marked at junctions, but navigation remains the responsibility of each runner; free maps are available online or at race headquarters.

Full Fell Runners Association kit must be carried, including a waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat and gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle or similar and basic first aid items are strongly recommended. Water is provided at two points on the route. Hot food and drinks are available at the finish.

The race is intended to suit those with limited fell running experience as well as more experienced participants, and parts of the course may be muddy so footwear with good grip is required. Entry conditions include a minimum age of 18 and a pre-entry fee; on-day entry may be available at a higher fee. The event marks its 20th anniversary with a memento for pre-entries. All race proceeds go to Buxton Rotary for charitable purposes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
