Youlgrave Pommie Panter Fell Race
The Pommie Panter is a mid-May fell race in Youlgrave, Derbyshire, organised under Fell Running Association rules and licence. The course covers 5.8 miles (9.3 km) with approximately 876 ft (267 m) of climb. Terrain includes rough trails, open fields, short sections of country lane, low level technical ground and a swamp. About 80% of the route is on grazing land and competitors may encounter cattle.
The route is partially marked and marshalled, so navigation skills or local familiarity are recommended. The course runs entirely on public paths and can be recce'd in advance. Registration and main parking are based at Alport Lane Playing Fields, Youlgrave DE45 1WN; the village is compact, roughly 800 m end to end, and parking space is limited, so organisers restrict entry for parking reasons. Pre-entry costs £6 and on-the-day entry is also £6; entries are limited.
Facilities noted by organisers include three toilet blocks (at the playing fields, near the village hall by the start, and at Coldwell End car park) and post-race water with paper cups. All profits are donated to Youlgrave Parish Council for village facilities. The event has prize categories by age and gender, plus local delivery area awards.
