Winter Solstice Vertical Challenge
The Winter Solstice Vertical Challenge is a multiple-lap trail event held on December 19, 2026, at the Mt Walker trailhead in Quilcene, Washington, within Olympic National Forest. Participants may run or hike as many laps as they wish in a Fatass-style format, with some aid available at the trailhead and nutrition donated by Skratch Labs. Organizers expect a photographer on course and may provide giveaways.
The course measures 2 miles one way, for a 4 miles round trip. Repeating the route increases the total distance by additional 4-mile laps. Elevation gain per lap is about 2,100 feet; the route ranges from approximately 784 feet to 2,797 feet in elevation. A parking pass is not required.
Dogs are permitted when kept on leash and when owners clean up after them. Volunteers are welcome to assist with the event. Course details align with the Mount Walker route used by local trail resources. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
