Wincle Trout
The Wincle Trout is a hill run held as part of the annual Wincle Fete, which is usually on the second Saturday in June. The course is typically between 5 to 6.5 miles and runs around the Dane Valley and Gradbach. The route changes each year depending on which local farm is hosting the fete, and some editions have included river crossings on the course.
Hosts in recent years have included Tolls Farm (by the brewery), Mellor Knowl Farm and Brink Farm. Race reports and results are recorded for multiple years, with documentation available for events from 2019 through 2026.
Runners are given a bottle of beer after the run, and refreshments such as tea and cake are also provided at the fete. The event combines the fell or trail running element with the village fete setting, using farmland and valley paths for the course layout.
The organiser varies the exact route and host farm each year, so the distance and specific features such as crossings depend on the chosen farm and the planned course for that edition.
