Wilderness Run

The Wilderness Run takes place at the Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Hodge Park on Nov. 14, 2026. The event offers two measured course options that run through the museum grounds and surrounding parkland.

  • 2 mile course
  • 5 mile course

The course is well marked and passes through Shoal Creek Historical Village, across open fields, along wooded paths, and over rolling hills. Walkers and hikers are welcome; the route may include mud and uneven terrain. The event is open to participants age 6 and up.

After finishing, participants may fill a Wilderness Run Mug with warm soup provided by volunteers and gather around campfires on site. The organizer guarantees a Wilderness Run Mug and a long sleeve T-shirt for participants who register before Oct. 16, 2026.

The Wilderness Run began in 2002 as a cross-country event tied to the Shoal Creek Living History Museum. The museum spans 80 acres and includes authentic 19th century buildings dating from 1807 to 1885, such as log cabins, clapboard structures, and an antebellum mansion. On the day of the run, museum volunteers portray 19th century life as part of the event experience. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
