Wharfedale 3 Peaks Challenge
Organised by the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, the Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge is an annual fundraising event based in the village of Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales. The event offers route choices that all start and finish in Kettlewell and raise funds to support the operational costs of the local mountain rescue team.
Participants can choose from three courses:
- Three Peaks - 17 miles, 3800 ft, Firth Fell, Buckden Pike, Great Whernside
- Two Peaks - 13.5 miles, 2500 ft, Buckden Pike, Great Whernside
- Family Valley Walk - 4.5 miles, 300 ft
The two longer routes are open to walkers and runners of good fitness and traverse upland terrain with extensive views over Upper Wharfedale. The family walk follows the Dalesway along the River Wharfe and returns via the Paradise Walk, with an opportunity to view the rescue team vehicles and equipment at the finish.
On-course water stations are located at Buckden village and the Tor Dike / Park Rash road crossing; participants are asked to bring a water container. Entry fees include parking and a meal item with hot drinks. Additional tea, coffee, and a cake stall will be available on the field with proceeds to the rescue team. Dogs are not permitted on the main courses; they are allowed on the valley walk. Age rules apply for the valley walk and child entry options.
