Western Way – Maam to Leenane
This is a mountain trail race in County Galway on Saturday 14 November 2026 following a section of the Western Way. The route covers 32.50 km with approximately 1,090 m of ascent and includes a new out-and-back section up to Binn Chuiní. The course starts and finishes at Mám Community Centre with runners transported to the start and the finish located in Leenane at Leenaun Parking. Only major junctions are marked and GPS navigation is permitted.
The event is assigned Event Difficulty 9 and requires Level C mandatory kit. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map of the route/area, and compass. Race organisers will finalise the specific kit to be carried on the day depending on conditions; random kit checks may be carried out and missing items can result in denied entry or disqualification.
Entry fee is €35 and entries are shown as sold out, with a cap on places. Prizegiving for the race, the Connacht Championships, and the Galway 2026 league will take place afterwards in Leenane Hotel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
