About the race
The MTC Gancanagh is a 52.4 mile ultramarathon held on Saturday 15 May 2027 as Day 9 of the 14-day Mount to Coast MizMal® series. The route runs from the Woodfield Hotel in Clifden, Co. Galway to Westport Woods Hotel & Spa in Westport, Co.
Mayo and is measured at 52.4 miles with a total ascent of 2,940 ft and total descent of 2,940 ft. The course includes four supported checkpoints at approximately 10.2, 20.8, 30.0 and 41.0 miles where food and drink are offered; competitors must carry a reusable drinking container because the event is cup free. The route is not fully waymarked and GPX files are supplied about four weeks before the event; GPS navigation and a charged device are required. Organisers provide GPS tracking devices with an SOS function for safety. All competitors must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph including checkpoint stops.
The maximum permitted finishing time for the measured route is 13 hours and 6 minutes. Entry options are offered as Standard and Plus, with Plus including a technical race shirt and a high-visibility jacket.
