Waun Fach Fell Race
The event on Sunday 6 September 2026 is a fell race over a course of 11.2 km with approximately 610 m ascent (listed also as 7 miles / 2000 ft). The event headquarters is a car parking field (grid SO172302, W3W: mush.sectors.dozens). Competitors are asked not to use the pub car park; parking will be signed from the pub. The entry fee is £10 via Fabian4, entries are for over-18s only and there is no entry on the day. The fee includes car parking, provision of a toilet and light refreshments. Race limit is 50.
The HQ will provide registration, a toilet and refreshments such as tea, coffee, water, squash and cakes. There will be three hill marshals on the route with first aid kits and radio contact. The start is in the lane behind the pub, about a 10 minute walk from the HQ. Prizes are available at the HQ with a presentation after most finishers have completed; prize categories include 1st/2nd/3rd male and female, veterans V40/50/60/70+ and teams of three to count, with one prize per person.
The route follows a classic horseshoe line: track down from the pub, a short road section, then paths up Rhiw Trumau on McNamara's Road to the col at 617, a steep section to Pen Trumau and the broad ridge to Waun Fach on a gravel path. The course continues northwest on improved gravel then former grassy/boggy path to Pen Y Manllwyn, descends west onto the Dragons Back (Y Grib), passes several undulations and finishes with a final pull up to the old fort at Castell Dinas.
Full kit must be brought to the venue in line with WFRA rules; the race officer will decide what is required on the day and may enforce a no-kit no-run policy. A maprun variant of the same course is available for solo or paired runs with automated timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
